FAQs

What is a Sexologist?

A sexologist is a qualified professional, typically holding a university degree, specialising in the study and understanding of human sexuality.

Why would I see a sexologist?

Individuals and couples often seek the expertise of a sexologist when concerns arise from perceived irregularities in sexual health, function, and frequency.

What services does a sexologist offer?

A sexologist provides therapeutic support in areas such as relationships, intimacy, sexual identity, gender identity, sexual trauma, sex addiction, and performance-related concerns.

Do you cater for teenagers?

Yes. Many parents seek assistance for their teens in the area of sexual impropriety, gender identity, and sexual orientation.

Can parents seek assistance when navigating behaviours in their children?

Parenting doesn’t come with a one size fits all manual. Yes, I am happy to help parents navigate parenting concerns within my area of expertise.

Why combine sexology and education?

The Health and Physical Education Curriculum provides a basic foundation; however, its scope is limited and concludes at Year 10. Incorporating the expertise of experienced educators to deliver programs addressing human sexuality—from puberty to adult relationships—offers a more comprehensive approach that traditional education often lacks.

Discomfort surrounding discussions about sexual health can deter individuals from seeking timely support, leading to challenges that become more difficult to resolve over time. Introducing targeted school programs enables individuals to better recognize potential issues, improve relationship communication, and reduce reliance on more intensive health services. By fostering knowledge, understanding, and confidence, these programs empower people to seek help proactively and lessen the need for more invasive health services in the future.

Essential Sexology Education & Therapy

About

Essential Sexology Education & Therapy is thoughtfully named to represent its mission. A deeper understanding of how our bodies and minds connect—especially in the realms of sex, sexuality, identity, and intimacy—benefits us all. Research shows that comprehensive education in relationships and sexuality empowers individuals to express their needs, desires, and boundaries with clarity, confidence, and respect.

It is crucial to acknowledge the potential emotional responses that arise when engaging with this service. With over 30 years of experience in education, I have observed that discussions around reproductive, relational, and sexual health can be particularly triggering for many people, especially parents and adults. This fear often stems from the belief that discussing these topics might present more problems than staying silent. All programs are age and developmentally-appropriate.

The goal is to empower all clients with the practical and necessary information to proactively manage their needs and develop understandings of individual and communal reproductive and sexual health while breaking down barriers and fostering understanding. Reiterating, all content is age and developmentally-approrpriate.
